You Make Lovin' You Easy

To the guy who sent me a pizza from California and won my heart:

A pizza is what started it all. Isn’t that amazing? Some dough, some fatty cheeses, a little BBQ chicken and a whole lot of plotting and scheming and now we get to tell our friends and family that we started dating because you sent me a pizza. I love that story, because it’s perfectly us: two people who find the joy in the little things and are motivated by food.

It’s about so much more than a pizza. I know I don’t have to tell you that, because you already know….like the way you know that I don’t speak before I have my coffee or when it comes to plans it’s best to let me do the heavy lifting. It’s about how you show up for the people you love: whether it’s making sure you go to every party or group event, leaving heart-felt notes by the coffee maker in the morning or putting together a video of the good old college days just to make someone smile. Your kindness, your generosity knows no bounds and even if you don’t have the means to do everything your little heart desires, you make sure the people you care about, know it.

That’s what won me over, you know. Not that I wasn’t smitten by you after our first conversation, which lasted six hours and felt so natural I thought I had known you my entire life. It was your thoughtfulness. How you took the time to map out the best way to have a pizza delivered to my door, even though you lived in California and I was in Georgia and how you found a way to slyly contact one of my best friends for my address and found the closest Dominos even though you had never set a foot in the state I lived in. It’s how you pack my lunch when you know I have a busy day ahead and how you helped me plan my best friend’s bachelorette party before we even met face to face. It’s about how you value your relationships with people, and how you let them know thought your random acts of kindness. You are the most thoughtful man I have ever met.

On your birthday, I want you to know that we are the lucky ones. We get to stand beside you: celebrate your triumphs and pick you up when you fall. We are lucky to say we have you on our side: you who calls when he says he's going to, who never forgets a birthday or an anniversary, who is always game for an adventure no matter how big or small and who loves to reminisce about the good old days while listening to Blink 182 full blast. You are one in a million, and you're ours.

The day you sent me a pizza my life changed forever: I now know that I deserve love because you never let a day go by without telling me how much you love me. I never worry about the curve balls life throws our way, because I know no matter what happens, we're going to be ok,  because we have each other. You make loving you easy, and I'm so excited for another year of laughing, loving and making the best out of everything.

Forever yours in pizza,

Ashten

For Kyle's birthday it was my turn to plot and scheme and surprise. I gathered all his friends from across the miles and had them each film a special birthday message for him. He had no idea we were putting this together behind his back, and when I showed it to him this morning he was completely shocked. He really has some of the greatest people in his life, and I'm lucky they weren't completely creeped out when I emailed them all out of the blue, asking them to do this. I know these faces won't mean much to you, but this video is the perfect description of Kyle: he is the kind of guy who just loves his people. And they really do love him.
