Welcome to Just Go Left!
I'm Ashten, and I'm so happy you're here!
If you're new to Just Go Left, start your journey here.
Writing has always been my creative outlet. What started as chronicling my love for JTT in the diary I hid under my mattress in the 90's has become not only a blog but a full-blown passion. I have started and subsequently stopped several blogs over the years, but Just Go Left is the blog that feels most like "home".
Speaking of home: after spending 6 years in Atlanta, I moved back to Ventura, California, where I was born and raised. It's a little beach town with lots of character. You can read about my little town here.
You should know that I never start my day without a cup of coffee and I'm an introverted extrovert with a penchant for sarcasm, sass and stubbornness.Under my sarcastic exterior, you'll find I have a big heart and a lot more feelings than I will ever admit.
There are two co-stars you'll see gracing my posts, who are not only a huge part of my life but also a huge part of this blog:
My boyfriend, Kyle.
Yes, I'm dating a ginger with a beard. If we don't eventually have a ginger baby our entire relationship was a lie. Kyle is an incredibly talented videographer who showcases his talents here on Just Go Left. (He also owns his own videography business!) And, if you're feeling mushy, read this post about what I've learned from living with Kyle.
Our dog, Gatsby.
Gatsby came into our lives in May 2015, a few months after my beloved Boxer Mix, Warner, passed away from a kidney disease called PLN. He has become the perfect addition to our little family; filling the huge hole that was left when Warner passed away. He's a Lab/Great Pyrenees mix who definitely has the laid-back gentleness of a Pyrenees and the quirkiness of a Lab. Gatsby is always teaching me little life lessons, which I have appropriately named "Gatsby Lessons". (10 points for creativity) You can read them here.
About Just Go Left
Just Go Left is a love letter to living my best life. Not just because I not-so-secretly want to be Oprah, but because I believe through the ups and downs of life we are given the choice to "go left" when things don't go right. Let me be honest: my life isn't perfect and I often feel like I'm living in chaos, but I've learned to embrace the mess as well as my imperfections and I choose to thrive.
I hope this blog is a place you'll come to find community and the encouragement to thrive, no matter what your mess might be.
